Getting Tall in the Sky

Diana had worked as a flight attendant and had seen everything, from rude customers to sexism at work. She chose to stand up against a racist comment one day, which could have changed her flight and maybe even her life forever.

Diana and her coworkers were telling each other stories at a café in the airport when Tony, a guy, caught their attention. Diana was annoyed by his arrogant look and smug grin, so she spoke to him.

“Typical women,” Tony made fun of them. “You’re supposed to do what you’re told and keep quiet.”

Diana felt stronger, so she stood up to him. She replied, “At least we know how to do our jobs right,” while dripping hot coffee all over Tony’s shirt.

People in the café gasped, and Tony’s face turned red with anger. Diana was proud of herself for standing up for herself as she walked away.

She had no idea that Tony was going to be her new pilot. Her heart almost stopped as she stepped into the cockpit. That grin of Tony’s pointed to anger.

They were clearly tense with each other, but Diana kept her cool. Tony’s antics during the safety lesson made Diana feel out of sorts.

She yelled and stomped into the pilot, mad. “This plane is not your playground!” Tony’s grin went away, and he said sorry for what he had said before.

The flight went on smoothly, and Tony stopped pulling any more jokes. Diana let out a sigh of relief as the plane touched down.

Then, she saw a bunch of flowers and a note from Tony saying sorry for what he did on one of the seats. This could have been more than just an apology; it could have been the start of something new.

Diana smiled because she felt a link. She teased, “We’ll see,” leaving Tony and herself wondering what might happen next.
