How to Get Over Betrayal: A Self-Discovery Journey

I’m Hannah, and I’m a 38-year-old mother of two. My world fell apart while we were on vacation in Mexico. Luke, my husband, had been acting strangely. He wouldn’t take photos with me and kept his phone hidden. Because I was too interested, I found a shocking message he sent to his friends making fun of my weight and looks.

His words hurt me deeply, and I felt lied to. He was making fun of me behind my back when I thought we were a team. I cried by myself to work through my feelings. I chose to stand up because I was angry.

I put pictures of myself on Facebook to look for a new trip partner and to hint at Luke’s mean behavior. It was amazing how much help there was from family and friends. It made me feel good that they told me I was beautiful and strong.

But things got more difficult when Luke found out I had inherited a large sum of money from an uncle. He tried to say sorry, but telling her she could use the money to lose weight made things worse.

I saw that he cared more about my money than about our relationship. I ended our marriage and made my own happiness. Getting a divorce was hard, but I focused on taking care of myself, working out, and growing as a person.

I learned to love myself even though I have flaws. Nobody, not even Luke, had to agree with me. I was enough. Our meeting at the mall a few months later showed that I had moved on. His face fell, but I didn’t care and walked away.

My journey taught me to be strong and love myself. I let go of the hurt and accepted my true worth. It’s now my time to live, and I’m strong and sure of myself.
