My worst fear as a parent came true when my seven-year-old son Kyle disappeared after being dropped off by the wrong town by his school bus driver.
Kyle was going to take the bus home, but the driver called the stops wrong, leaving him stuck. Since Kyle didn’t have a phone, he waited and then walked around the strange neighbourhood, getting more lost and scared.
Kyle called us from a borrowed phone and begged for help, saying, “Mom, I’m in a dark, dirty room.” It broke my heart. With whom was he? Was he okay?
The call from Kyle came from an old, run-down part of town. When we called the cops, they tracked the call to a broken-down shelter. We found Kyle with Frank, a poor man who had taken Kyle in.
We were wary of Frank at first, but Kyle told us that this stranger had bought him a meal and let him use his blanket, which kept him safe.
We were so thankful that we took Frank to dinner and gave him more. Tristan, my husband, used his ties to help Frank get a job and a place to live.
Things changed in Frank’s life. He got a job as a security guard, made friends, and found a nice place to live.
This chance meeting taught us about being decent and kind to others. Frank went from being a stranger to a dear friend.
Our fear turned into a touching story that made us remember that there are good people like Frank in the world, even when things look bad.
Please share this moving story and let us know what you think. It could make someone’s day better and show them how powerful kindness can be.
