A sneaky friend photobombed a seventh-grader’s back-to-school photo shoot in Auburn, Alabama, making things more interesting than planned.

Brooke Mills was posing so that her mom, ShaneJoy Mills, could take a picture of the moment. But as they looked at the pictures, ShaneJoy’s joy turned to worry.

The picture looked great at first glance. But when ShaneJoy looked more closely, he saw a snake that blended in with the tree bark behind Brooke.

“I said, ‘Brooke, come here!’ and she looked at me like I’m not done taking pics!” Shane Joy remembered. “I told Brooke to leave the tree right now.” I said it in a quiet voice, but I think my face told you everything.”

People who commented said the snake looked like a rat snake and said it was healthy and not dangerous. Luckily, it was only interested in striking a pose.

The shocking find has gone viral, with hundreds of people sharing the post. Shane Joy’s quick thought kept Brooke safe, and the picture will always be special to me.
