Patti Scialfa talks about her brave journey with multiple myeloma, a type of cancer she was diagnosed with in 2018.
There is music in Scialfa’s life. She is married to Bruce Springsteen and is in the famous band E Street Band. But her fight with health has made her rethink what’s most important to her. “My immune system is compromised, so I have to be mindful of my choices,” she says.
Even though Scialfa still sometimes meets her husband on stage, she has decided not to go on tour anymore. She’s instead focused on what’s important: her family and her art. Scialfa is very happy that her niece Lily was born in July 2022. She loves spending time with her.
Scialfa also found her love for making music by herself again and worked on a new record while Bruce was in the studio. “I seized the opportunity to focus on my record,” she points out. Putting her health and artistic projects first has given her clarity and a sense of purpose.
Bruce Springsteen, meanwhile, has had his own health problems. He had to cancel tour dates in 2023 because of peptic ulcer disease and again in 2024 because of problems with his voice. Everyone knows that the pair loves and supports each other no matter what.
Patti Scialfa’s story shows how strong people can be and how important it is to reevaluate their goals in life. As she deals with her cancer, her dedication to family, singing, and self-care motivates fans all over the world.
