From a dream to a reality: Will Breaux’s shipping container home

Share

Designer Will Breaux did something brave when he built a one-of-a-kind, three-story home out of shipping containers. It was a long-held dream of his. The 2,500-square-foot home on McGowen Street in Houston is a testament to creativity and drive.

But it was hard for Breaux to find a designer who shared his idea when his journey began in the early 2000s. He didn’t give up, so he took things into his own hands and looked at projects he admired for ideas. After leaving a design team that didn’t live up to his hopes, Breaux started building his dream home by himself in 2011.

Breaux liked the idea of using shipping containers because they are very strong, don’t catch fire, and last a long time. He worked hard to learn about container construction even though he didn’t have any expert building experience. Breaux worked for many hours on a 3D sketch of his idea, which helped him make his amazing container home a reality.

This amazing house, which has a deck on the roof, shows how creative and determined Breaux is. That’s why his story is important: with drive and hard work, even the strangest dreams can come true.
