Heather Unbehaun, the mother who was accused of stealing her daughter Kayla six years ago, has now turned herself in to the police. This ends a very public case. Unbehaun is being held without bail at the Kane County Adult Justice Centre in Illinois right now because he is being charged with kidnapping.
The amazing ending to this story began when Kayla was found safe in North Carolina and reunited with her father, Ryan Iserka, who was keeping her. Unbehaun turned herself in just a few days after being arrested in North Carolina on an Illinois warrant for her arrest. After paying bail, she was let go, but she quickly turned herself in again.
While Kayla was at a parade in South Elgin, Illinois, on July 4, 2017, Unbehaun took her without permission. A felony warrant was filed for her arrest, which led to a long search.
According to a tip from a person in Asheville who recognised Kayla from the Netflix show “Unsolved Mysteries,” the case took an unexpected turn. The girl who went missing was found. Iserka thanked the police and his friends for helping him get back together with his daughter.
Unbehaun is due in court at the Kane County Judicial Centre on Wednesday morning. This is the next step in this difficult and stressful case.
