Kayla, my new neighbour on Maple Street, told me I had to take down my old fence, which made my peaceful life on Maple Street less quiet. There was a chain of events that would turn her life upside down that I didn’t know about.
Kayla, a realtor who lived in the city, was eager to get what she wanted, but her actions caused a lot of trouble. Duke, her dog, got away and caused a lot of trouble. Her belongings were also stolen. I refused to rebuild the fence, even though she begged me to, and Kayla’s life kept falling apart.
Thoughts of irony kept going through my mind as Kayla’s position got worse and worse. In the end, her efforts to control me were what brought her down. She tried to tell me what I could and could not do on my own land, but in the end, her own acts killed her.
I remembered the day she first came up to me, acting like she was entitled and full of herself. She had no idea that what she did would cause so much trouble. I tried to talk her down by telling her that the fence was agreed upon by the former owners, but she wouldn’t listen.
Kayla’s life got harder and harder as the weeks went by. Duke kept running away, and her furniture was damaged. She tried to hold him back, but it didn’t work.
Eventually, I made the choice to move on, leaving Kayla to deal with what she did. When I sold my house and moved to a new neighbourhood, I put the fence panels back up. In my new home, I found peace and even love. It made me smile to think of how Kayla’s punishment had come full circle.
I learnt from the experience that fate can be smart and that trying to control other people can end badly for us. I learnt to stand up for myself and not give in to expectations that were too high. My thoughts are with Kayla. I hope she learnt how important it is to be kind and understanding.
