As I walked down a busy city street, I saw someone I knew: Mr. Williams, my old teacher. But he couldn’t be recognised because his clothes were torn and he was leaning against a building. What had he done to get to this point? I was shocked.
As we talked, he told me a shocking fact. My mother, who is on the school board, set him up to fail when he wouldn’t change my grade.
She fired him, put him on a blacklist, and hurt his image. I was shocked and felt bad for not knowing what was going on.
He agreed to my offer to help him. I asked him to be my kids’ private teacher because I knew he could teach them useful things about life. At first, he wasn’t sure, but in the end, he agreed and promised not to let me down.
I felt like this was a new beginning for both of us as we drove to my house. It was important to me to fix things and help him start over with his life. I also knew that his advice would be good for my kids.
I learnt something important from Mr. Williams’ story: that success doesn’t always come free, and that real character shines through when things go wrong. And I knew that our lives would never be the same again. I was thankful for the chance meeting.
