Outrage over Savannah Guthrie’s lack of appearance on “Today” and rude interview

Share

A lot of people were surprised when Savannah Guthrie didn’t show up for her co-hosting job on the “Today” Show. Craig Melvin filled in for Guthrie while Hoda Kotb quickly explained why she wasn’t there. But why did she suddenly disappear?

There is a book tour that Guthrie just finished promoting her new book, “Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere.” She stopped in Texas early in her tour and got backing from former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush. However, even though Guthrie wasn’t on her show, an interview she did with singer and actor Kelly Rowland caused a lot of trouble.

In the interview, Guthrie asked Rowland about her new Netflix movie, “Mea Culpa,” and also brought up Beyoncé, who is a close friend of Rowland’s. Fans thought this was rude because it took attention away from Rowland’s work and put it on her personal life. Some fans were angry and wrote on social media, “Very disrespectful to ask…[Rowland] about Beyoncé every freaking time she comes on your show.”

There was a lot of talk about interview etiquette and how to respect the interviewee’s limits after what happened. Even though Guthrie’s absence from the show has nothing to do with the issue, it’s clear that her actions have upset fans of the show. Many “Today” show viewers are wondering how the show will handle the incident and move on as fans wait for her return.

Feel free to watch the whole conversation below and decide for yourself if Guthrie’s questions were too much.
