From being homeless to having a household name, Dr. Phil’s journey to success

There’s no doubt that Dr. Phil’s rise to fame and wealth looks easy, but he worked hard to get there. Behind the charismatic TV figure is a traumatic childhood marked by abuse, poverty, and being without a home.

During an honest conversation with The Coach Mike Podcast, Dr. Phil talked about how he grew up in a violent home and how he often tried to avoid his violent and moody father. He said, “It was complete chaos.”

It wasn’t over for Dr. Phil, though. When he was a youth, he was poor and slept in a cardboard box on the streets of Kansas City. He said, “I’ve been homeless,” in 2021. “I’ve lived on the streets… I’ve slept in a cardboard box.”

Even with all of these problems, Dr. Phil’s life changed when he met Oprah Winfrey in 1996. He became a regular on her show, and after four years, he started his own. Today, everyone knows Dr. Phil. He has been nominated for 24 Emmys and his show is a huge hit.

His personal life also did well. He married Robin McGraw and had a happy marriage. She told a select group of people, “I knew that first night that he was The One.”
