Born in Los Angeles on March 12, 1950, Jon Provost rose to fame on American television as Timmy Martin from the legendary program Lassie. With a part in the 1953 movie So Big, he made his acting debut at the age of two.

Parts in Escapade in Japan (1957), Back from Eternity (1956), and The Country Girl (1954) came after this. But the part that would ultimately define his career was the one he was given when he was six years old, in 1957, when he was cast as Timmy.

Prior to her meteoric rise to fame on television between 1954 and 1973, Lassie had already made a significant contribution to American culture through a variety of media, including radio plays, books, films, and short tales.

Provost shot an astounding 249 episodes while playing Timmy Martin on Lassie, which ran from 1957 to 1964.

Jon Provost looks back on his time on the show with nostalgia, seeing it as a string of special ‘home movies’. His recollections of collaborating with icons of Hollywood such as Grace Kelly and Bing Crosby are ones he treasures.

Even though the busy shooting schedule frequently required working on several screenplays at once, which made it challenging for young Jon to understand the whole plot, he still remembers those days with a great deal of thankfulness and affection.

Provost starred in other films and continues to make television appearances after his stint on Lassie. He is the father of two children and has been married twice. At seventy-three, he has penned a book called Timmy’s in the Well: The Jon Provost Story, which offers readers a close-up view of his life and work.
