Four-time Olympic gold medallist Simone Biles made a stunning comeback to the limelight in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris by winning the gold in the women’s gymnastics final. With a stunning collection of eight Olympic medals and thirty World Championship medals, Biles further cemented her position as the best gymnast in history, even after sustaining a calf injury during the preliminary competition.
Biles had earlier withdrawn from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to mental health issues, particularly addressing the disorder known as the “twisties,” which impairs spatial awareness. Her choice to put her mental health first was praised widely and prompted significant discussions regarding the mental health of sports. After this hiatus, Biles focused on her personal life, planning to wed NFL player Jonathan Owens in 2023.
Looking back on her early years, Biles has talked about the difficulties she and her siblings had, one of which was a persistent concern about running out of food. Her gymnastics career was greatly aided by her grandparents, Nellie and Ronald Biles, who eventually adopted her and her sister.
Biles moved into her chic Houston home—which she likens to “an LA house, but in Houston”—after getting married. Even though her parents weren’t happy with her decision at first, Biles refused to back down, stating, “But it’s not your house, it’s mine.”
Biles and Owens are currently constructing a new house together. Biles maintains her success in gymnastics despite her demanding schedule, all the while enjoying her life in their Houston home with Owens.
