The University of Wyoming faces profound grief after losing three swim team members in a Friday car crash near the Colorado state line. Carson Muir, Charlie Clark and Luke Slabber – aged 18, 19 and 21 respectively – died when their vehicle rolled multiple times on Highway 287, marking one of the darkest days in UW athletics history.

Colorado authorities report the afternoon accident ejected two passengers from the Toyota RAV4, while two other teammates survived with less serious injuries. The crash site between Livermore and Virginia Dale became the heartbreaking final chapter for three young athletes with promising futures.

UW President Ed Seidel called the losses “simply devastating” for the university community, while Athletic Director Tom Burman promised full support for grieving teammates and coaches. Though traveling independently of team activities, the students’ deaths have unified the campus in sorrow.

As investigators work to determine the crash’s cause, Wyoming leaders including Governor Mark Gordon have joined the outpouring of sympathy. The tragedy serves as a painful reminder of how quickly lives can change, leaving an entire university to mourn the potential that will never be realized.
