Rapper’s Lyft Rejection Goes Viral—Now She’s Fighting Back in Court

A Michigan rapper is taking a stand after a Lyft driver refused her a ride, claiming she was too large for his car. Dajua “Dank Demoss” Blanding recorded the exchange, which shows the driver locking his doors and insisting she wouldn’t fit.

“I can fit!” Blanding says in the video, frustrated. But the driver stands firm, eventually driving off. Though he waived the cancellation fee, Blanding says the incident left her feeling publicly shamed.

Online, opinions are divided. Some argue the driver was justified in protecting his vehicle, while others see it as clear-cut discrimination. Blanding’s legal team is pursuing the case under Michigan laws that prohibit weight-based bias.

Lyft’s policies explicitly forbid discrimination, but Blanding says the company needs to do more to enforce these rules. “Everyone deserves respect,” she said. “No one should be turned away because of how they look.”

The lawsuit could set a precedent for how ride-hailing companies handle similar disputes in the future.
