Mary Lou Retton, the legendary gymnast who captivated America’s heart at the 1984 Summer Olympics, is now facing her toughest challenge yet. Her daughter, McKenna Kelly, recently shared the devastating news that Retton is battling a rare and severe form of pneumonia in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Retton’s remarkable career was marked by her historic gold medal wins in the vault and floor exercises, earning her a permanent place in American sports history. She was named Sports Illustrated’s Female Athlete of the Year and even appeared on Wheaties cans.

However, Retton’s current situation is dire. Kelly revealed that her mother is unable to breathe on her own and has been under medical care for over a week. To make matters worse, Retton lacks health insurance, leaving her family with mounting hospital bills.

Kelly has set up a fund to help alleviate the financial burden and is seeking support from the public. She humbly requests two things: prayers for her mother’s recovery and financial contributions to the fund.

Retton’s legacy extends beyond her gymnastics career. She has made numerous television appearances, including guest roles on popular shows like Glee and Baywatch, and even competed on Dancing with the Stars.

As Retton remains in the hospital, her family and fans anxiously await her recovery. The International Gymnastics Hall of Fame inductee continues to inspire generations with her remarkable achievements. Let’s come together to support this American icon in her time of need.
