A blind date in China took a dramatic turn when a woman decided to test her date’s generosity by inviting 23 family members to dinner. The plan, however, backfired, resulting in an awkward situation, a hefty bill, and even a legal battle.
Miss Zhang had arranged a blind date with Mr. Lui at a restaurant in Zhejiang. Wanting to assess his willingness to provide for her family, she brought along her entire extended family—23 people in total. Mr. Lui, who had offered to treat Miss Zhang to dinner, was stunned when he arrived to find such a large group waiting for him.
As the dinner progressed, it became clear that Mr. Lui was not comfortable with the situation. Feeling overwhelmed by the unexpected crowd and the potential cost, he decided to leave the restaurant, leaving Miss Zhang to deal with the bill. The total came to 20,000 yuan (around $3,100), a significant amount that Miss Zhang was now responsible for.
The situation didn’t end there. Miss Zhang took legal action, filing a lawsuit against Mr. Lui to recover some of the costs. The court ruled that Mr. Lui should pay 1,400 yuan, but the majority of the bill remained Miss Zhang’s responsibility.
This story highlights the risks of testing someone’s character in such an extreme way. While Miss Zhang may have had good intentions, her approach ultimately led to an uncomfortable and costly outcome. It’s a reminder that honesty and open communication are far more effective in building trust and understanding in any relationship.
