An 83-year-old British gentleman arrived in Paris, ready to enjoy his trip. As he searched his bag for his passport, a French customs officer asked sternly, “Have you been to France before?” The man smiled and replied, “Yes, I have.”
With a hint of sarcasm, the officer said, “Then you should know to have your passport ready, sir.” The gentleman, unfazed, responded calmly, “I didn’t have to show it last time.”
“Impossible!” the officer exclaimed. “The British have always had to show their passports here.” The gentleman leaned in and whispered, “Well, when I landed on the beach on D-Day in 1944, I couldn’t find any Frenchmen to show it to.”
The officer was left stunned, and the gentleman walked away, a quiet nod to the bravery of his generation.
