Meet Chase Poust, a 7-year-old boy who’s being hailed as a hero after his incredible bravery saved his family from a terrifying ordeal. On Memorial Day weekend, Chase, his father Steven, and 4-year-old sister Abigail were enjoying a day out on the river near Jacksonville, Florida.

But when Abigail was swept away by the strong current, Chase sprang into action. Without hesitation, he let go of the boat and grabbed his sister, determined to keep her safe. However, this meant he too became stranded in the river.

With no life jacket to aid him, Chase relied on his swimming skills, alternating between the doggie paddle and floating on his back. After an exhausting hour-long swim, he finally reached shore, where he ran for help.

Meanwhile, Steven was frantically screaming for help, waving his arms to attract attention. Thankfully, someone heard their cries, and rescue teams were dispatched to their location.

One hour later, Steven and Abigail were rescued, having drifted a mile away from their boat. The outcome could have been disastrous, but thanks to Chase’s quick thinking and bravery, the family was reunited, safe and sound.

As Eric Prosswimmer, spokesperson for Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, noted, “We couldn’t ask for a better outcome.” Chase’s selfless act is an inspiration to us all, proving that even the youngest among us can make a big impact in times of need.
