Beyoncé’s 2025 Grammy win for Album of the Year was a milestone moment, and her husband, Jay-Z, was there to share in the joy. As she stood up to accept the award for her country album, Cowboy Carter, she hugged Jay-Z and their daughter, Blue Ivy. In that brief moment, Jay-Z whispered something into her ear—a moment that has since been decoded by a lip reader.

According to NJ Hickling, Jay-Z said, “Woah woah woah. Bout time! You’re a top girl.” The words perfectly captured his pride and admiration for his wife’s incredible achievement.

Beyoncé, visibly moved by the win, took the stage to deliver a heartfelt speech. “Wow, I really was not expecting this,” she said. “I want to thank God, oh my God, that I’m able to still do what I love after so many years.”

She also thanked the country artists who supported her album, emphasizing the importance of breaking down genre barriers. “I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists,” she said. “And I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about, and to say, ‘Stay persistent.’”

Beyoncé dedicated her award to Linda Martell, a pioneer for Black musicians in country music. Martell, who appears on Cowboy Carter, was the first Black woman to perform solo at the Grand Ole Opry.

The night was a celebration of Beyoncé’s talent and versatility. In addition to Album of the Year, she won Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her collaboration with Miley Cyrus, II Most Wanted.

Jay-Z’s whispered words to Beyoncé were a touching reminder of the love and support that have defined their relationship. It was a moment that added an extra layer of sweetness to an already unforgettable night.
