A Spelling Lesson That Took a Funny Turn

Share

One day, a second grader came home from school with some big news. “Mom, guess what?” she said with excitement. “We learned how to make babies today!” Her mother, trying not to react too strongly, asked, “Oh? How do you make babies?”

The girl confidently explained, “You just change ‘y’ to ‘i’ and add ‘es’.” Her mom couldn’t help but laugh when she realized her daughter was talking about spelling rules, not human reproduction. The little girl had learned how to turn singular words like “baby” into plurals, such as “babies.”

It was a funny and innocent misunderstanding that gave the mom a good laugh. Kids often say things in a way that adults don’t expect, and this was one of those moments. The mom knew this story would be a favorite to share at family gatherings, bringing smiles and laughter every time.
