Tragedy has struck the Sinise family as they bid farewell to Mac Sinise, Gary’s courageous son, who passed away at 33 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Gary, 68, shared the heartbreaking news on his foundation’s website and Instagram, revealing that Mac succumbed to the rare cancer, Chordoma, on January 5.
In a poignant statement, Gary recounted Mac’s five-year fight against the devastating disease, which was diagnosed just months after his mother, Moira Harris, received her own cancer diagnosis. While Moira triumphed over her illness, Mac’s condition gradually worsened, taking a toll on his strength and mobility.
Despite his health struggles, Mac remained a beacon of resilience, pursuing his passion for music and working with the Gary Sinise Foundation. A talented drummer, Mac performed alongside his father in the Lt. Dan Band and completed an album, “Resurrection & Revival,” just before his passing.
Gary spoke candidly about the overwhelming grief of losing a child, expressing his heartbreak and solidarity with those who have experienced similar losses. He praised Mac’s unwavering spirit, saying, “He fought an uphill battle against a cancer that has no cure, but he never quit trying.”
Mac’s legacy will live on through his family, and Gary is committed to honoring his memory by releasing his album on vinyl. Our thoughts are with the Sinise family during this difficult time, and we celebrate Mac’s courage and inspiration.
