A coded message that kept my family safe

Today is a day I will never forget: Ravi brought us dinner with a secret message that would change everything. His normally happy mood had changed to one of nervousness, and he quickly gave me the food before running back to his car.

I saw a note written by hand on the back of the food bag as I watched him drive off. It said, “CHECK YOUR TRASH CAN.” As my interest changed to fear, I quickly made my way to the garden to look into it.

I got chills when I saw what I did. There were gloves, tools, and an unknown liquid that looked like it could wear away things inside the trash can. It hit me that our house was being watched for a break-in, and Ravi’s warning had just kept us safe.

I called the sheriff’s office right away, and Officer Leona came right away to take my story and get the proof. Not being able to get rid of the feeling that I was being watched while we waited for the lab findings.

I put up security cameras around the house the next day, and Leona told me that the lab results proved that the liquid was a strong chemical that was used to break locks. I was thankful that Ravi thought of something quickly and that I followed my own gut feeling to act.

As I thought about what had happened, I realised that Ravi’s bravery might have saved our lives. When he got to my neighbor’s house, I decided to talk to him. He told me that he had seen some strange men messing with our trash can.

It was Ravi’s acts that set off a series of events that led to the break-in plot being found. I thanked him very much, and he drove off, happy that his advice had been taken seriously.

As I settled down for the night and watched the security cameras, I couldn’t help but be thankful for the people who had helped keep my family safe out of the blue. Ravi’s bravery, Leona’s hard work, and my own feelings had all worked together to stop something bad from happening.

I realised at that moment that sometimes the smallest things can have the biggest effects. A vague warning, a brave choice, and keeping a close eye on things kept my family safe.
