Even though it’s been a while, I still feel a lot of different feelings when I think about what happened. Our beloved Labrador puppy, Max, caused my husband, Mark, to quickly become allergic. At least that’s what he said.
At first, I felt sorry for Mark’s situation and did everything I could to help him. But as time went on, I saw that his story wasn’t making sense. Our four-year-old daughter Lily found a tube of lipstick in Mark’s drawer, which is when the truth began to come out.
With the help of the lipstick, I found out that Mark was lying. I found packs of medicine and creams that he said he was using to treat his allergy that had not been opened. The thought came to me that Mark had been lying about his allergy the whole time.
I followed Mark to a friend’s house to find out what was going on. There, I found out that he was having an affair with a woman who was allergic to dog fur. Finally, the truth came out.
With a sad heart, I told Mark that he was cheating on me and telling lies. I told him it was time to leave because I would not stand for his lies. When he left, I felt a wave of relief wash over me.
Lily, Max, and I were the only ones left to clean up afterward. But I knew we would be okay as we hugged each other tight. Everything was fine because we had love. I learnt that the truth can hurt sometimes, but it’s always better than living a lie as time went on.
