A lot of people are upset about the Kansas City Chiefs’ choice to hold a Pride Night event at Arrowhead Stadium. People in charge of the team have made their views clear: they think football should be about toughness and determination, not making political comments.
People are arguing very strongly about the news on social media, with both fans and stars speaking out. Some people have praised the team for “staying true to football,” but others have said the move is backwards in terms of progress in society.
Surprisingly, players have had very different opinions, and some have chosen to stay out of the choice. “I’m here to play football, not politics,” quarterback Patrick Mahomes said. He also stressed how important it is to treat everyone with respect.
Travis Kelce, a tight end, was more laid-back. He joked that he had glitter on his boots and said, “We’re all excited about the games here.” “Let the front desk handle the rest.”
“It’s just football,” kicker Harrison Butker seemed to back up the team’s leaders. I feel like everyone is sick of politics being a part of everything. “Let’s play the game.”
The argument has spread to social media, with #WokeFreeChiefs and #CancelTheChiefs becoming popular on Twitter. Fans have been very open about their thoughts, with some being disappointed and others supporting the team’s decision.
The NFL hasn’t said anything public about it yet, but other teams have already said what they think. The San Francisco 49ers posted, “Everyone is welcome here,” along with a rainbow emoji. The Dallas Cowboys, on the other hand, talked about their relationship with an LGBTQ+ support group.
Because of the Chiefs’ choice, they are clearly on one side of the culture split. Other teams are taking steps to avoid being associated with the debate. We don’t yet know how this will affect the team and the NFL community as a whole as the discussion goes on.
