Randy Guijarro found something at a junk market for $2 that turned out to be a prize worth millions of dollars. In 2010, he found a 45-inch picture from 1878 of Billy the Kid playing croquet.
After years of study, Guijarro, an expert in telecoms, and his wife Linda, also a collector, proved that the picture was real. Only the second picture of Billy the Kid that can be trusted.
National Geographic wrote about their trip. Guijarro thinks that it will encourage other people to look for lost historical treasures.
A Random Find
Guijarro found Fulton’s Folly Antique Collective by accident in Fresno’s Tower neighbourhood. It cost him $2 to get three tintypes.
Putting together history
Under a microscope, Guijarro was able to identify Billy the Kid. Linda looked into other people, like Charlie Bowdre and Tom O’Folliard.
Proof Check
Experts agreed that the picture was real. It was covered for $5 million by Kagin’s Inc.

He wants to get a new car, settle his debts, and save money for more prize hunts.
