A five-person family in Rotherham is almost homeless because they haven’t paid their rent. Amy Winter, 26, and Joshua Thain, 27, will be kicked out of their Brunswick Street home soon.
Even though they get Universal Credit, it’s been hard for them to keep up with their rent payments. There will be changes for their three kids, Sky (5), Daisy-Mae (4), and Lexi (18 months).
Amy is scared for their future because she is five months pregnant. “We’re too anxious to leave the house,” she stated. “Barnsley Council knows our situation but hasn’t helped.”
The building, which is owned by Sanctuary Housing, was first hired by Joshua’s mother, Victoria Robertshaw, who died in August.
The family needs help, but there aren’t many choices. Amy’s family can’t give them a place to stay, and Joshua’s uncle, who is their only source of income, lives a long way away.
Amy is annoyed that Barnsley Council isn’t doing anything. “They shouldn’t be blamed,” she told them.
