An Unknown Gift from a Mother

Share

I took care of my mum until the end while she was dying of cancer. I was so sad when she died, but the real shock came when the will was read.

My aunts and brother each got $5 million, but I got nothing. Their lack of empathy wasn’t new; they had only come to visit when they needed money. One aunt asked for business contacts while Mom was getting worse.

What the lawyer said hurt, but then he gave me an envelope. “Your Mum loved you more than anyone,” he stated.

There was an address and key inside. I looked into it because I was interested.

The address led to a lovely, fully paid-for house that was full of memories and a new letter. Mom knew that my cousins would waste the money, which would teach them how much things are worth.

The real gift she gave me was this house, where we laughed together. It was a sign of love, not money.

As I sip my coffee in the comfort of my home, I realise how wise my mom was. Her love went beyond things; this house holds her heart.

What’s your story about “Mom knows best”?
