Liz Cheney, a former congresswoman, has strongly rejected claims that she burned more than 100 files connected to the January 6 Committee probe.
The trouble started when former President Donald Trump and Representative Barry Loudermilk said they were worried about important papers and tapes that were going missing during the investigation.
In public, Trump said that the committee had destroyed proof that could clear him, naming Cheney and other committee members in particular.
Loudermilk said he thought important records and tapes were deleted on purpose, which is against House rules.
According to Cheney, Trump’s claims are “ridiculous and false,” and they are not based on facts or the Constitution.
The public could be sure that all the proof the committee handled was properly stored and recorded, she said.
The argument shows how divided people are about the probe into what happened on January 6.
There are still questions about material handling even after high-profile meetings and suggestions.
Cheney says the investigation was legal and that all the appropriate papers were kept.
