Adam, 13, lived in a caravan with his dead mother and spent his time bowling on the floor. One day, a black SUV pulled up, and 75-year-old wealthy donor Charles Atwood got out.
Charles made an offer: Adam would do him a favour if he got a strike. Adam agreed, and Charles was able to do it. What did he ask? Go with him to a rocket launch.
A rocket was the first thing Adam had ever seen. It was a dream come true when Charles made his offer. A car took Adam and his mother to Charles’ private jet in the morning.
The Kennedy Space Centre was where they were going in Florida. Adam’s heart felt better as the rocket took off. Charles patted him on the back and shared his wonder.
Charles paid for Adam’s schooling, so he went to the best schools. He wished Adam would become an engineer. After many years, Adam finished with honours and went on to work as a flight engineer.
Charles died, but Adam continued to get help from his charity. Adam showed his appreciation for Charles’s kindness by starting a science and engineering program in his old neighbourhood for kids who don’t have much.
