It can be hard to break bad habits, but sometimes people just forget to do it. One of these is leaving your phone charger plugged in when you’re not using it.

Not long ago, I didn’t give it much thought. But when I learnt about possible risks, I changed my ways. What’s the risk then?

Even when they are not in use, chargers still draw power, which wastes energy. Continuous plugging also speeds up the breakdown of internal parts, which could cause warming or, in the worst cases, fires.

A short circuit can happen when water or metal touches it, and pets or kids that are just plain curious may unplug or play with the outlet by mistake.

There is a small chance of a fire, according to study, but these problems must be thought about. Current safety rules make sure that chargers are safe to use, but users need to be aware of these rules.
