Sometimes it seems like there isn’t enough understanding and kindness in the world. It warms my heart to hear about everyday heroes who go above and beyond to help people in need. Thirteen truck drivers worked together to save a life on a Michigan highway in one of these stories.

On I-696 near Huntington Woods, Michigan, it was a normal day until all of a sudden, there was a traffic jam that stopped everything. While drivers calmly waited, they soon found out why there was a delay: a line of 13 trailer trucks had parked under a bridge and wouldn’t move.

It wasn’t like any other traffic jam, though. A call came in to state cop Michael Shaw about someone threatening to jump off the bridge. Shaw quickly came up with a plan to rescue the people and asked the truck drivers to help.

Without a doubt, the drivers agreed to help. By parking their trucks under the bridge, they made a safety net that would keep the person from jumping straight down, which lowers the chance of major injury.

People on trucks waited below the bridge for four long hours while the person stood on the bridge. Finally, the person was calmed down and given psychological help with the help of authorities and experts.

A life was saved because the truck drivers did something kind for no reason. As word got out about how brave these drivers were, it became clear that they were more than just regular people; they were highway guardian angels.

They set a good standard for us all to follow as we try to do good things in our own communities.
