Elon Musk started the electric car company Tesla. They have recalled almost 700,000 cars because of a problem that could be fatal. Three types are affected: the Cybertruck, the Model 3, and the Model Y. The maker says there is a problem with the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning light that might not stay on between drives, so it doesn’t let the driver know when the tire pressure is low.
Because driving with tires that aren’t properly filled raises the risk of an accident, Tesla is moving quickly to fix the problem. Luckily, a free software update can fix the issue, and the company hasn’t heard of any injuries, crashes, or deaths that were caused by it.
A letter from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that the recall covers 694,304 cars. It’s not the first time Tesla has had to call back cars. The company called back 1.8 million cars in July because of a problem with the hood, and in May, it called back 125,000 cars because of problems with the seat belts.
Tesla has also been criticised for its “autopilot” technology, which lets cars drive themselves. One family said Musk was to blame for the death of a 31-year-old man who crashed his Tesla while using the trait. The family went to court and said that the “autopilot” feature wasn’t working right and that Musk was to blame for letting cars use it.
Additionally, a Tesla customer recently brought to our attention a major design flaw in the Cybertruck that could mean the headlights can’t light up the roads at all, creating a safety risk. The customer said that the headlights are at the bottom of the car, which could be a problem when it’s snowing.
Tesla’s recall and worries about its self-driving technology and design flaws show how important it is to put safety first when designing and making electric cars. As the company keeps coming up with new ideas and pushing the limits of electric vehicle technology, it needs to make sure that all of its goods are safe.
