There have been some annoying neighbours in the past, but none as annoying as Meredith. Because she kept complaining about my safe solar yard lights, a chain of events happened that made her beg me for help.
Being a single mum has taught me to be patient and understanding when things go wrong. My daughter Lily and I have loved living in our cute neighbourhood for five years. Things changed when Meredith moved in next door, though.
People got tired of hearing Meredith complain over and over about how bright the sun lights were. Even though I tried to talk her down, she insisted that I turn off the lights. What she did bothered Lily, who loved the soft glow of the lights in our yard, as well.
Meredith came rushing over one night and said she would call the police if I didn’t turn off the lights. I gave up because I felt insulted and angry. I hoped that this would bring peace back to our lives. I didn’t know that karma was going to step in, though.
The next morning, Meredith showed up at my door looking messy and upset. She told me I had to put the solar lights back up because raccoons had gotten into her yard and eaten her expensive plants and flowers without them. I tried to keep a calm face as I listened to her plea.
Every time she asked me to help her, I couldn’t help but think, “Be careful what you wish for.” She asked me to do something, but I kindly said no and suggested that she hire someone to clean up her garden.
Meredith spent a lot of money over the next few weeks trying to fix up her yard. While that was going on, Lily and I put up our solar lights again and added a few more just to be safe. Because of this, I learnt that karma can even things out sometimes. I couldn’t help but smile at how ironic it was that Meredith got something she asked for.
