In a tragic incident at Sydney’s Carlton Railway Station, a father’s selfless act has left the community in mourning. On Sunday, a stroller carrying his two-year-old twin daughters rolled onto the train tracks, prompting the father to risk his life in a heroic rescue attempt.
Security footage showed the family’s ordinary day turn into a nightmare as the stroller unexpectedly rolled onto the tracks. The father, who had recently moved to Australia from India, leaped into action, attempting to save his daughters from an oncoming train.
Though he managed to save one twin, he and the other daughter were tragically struck by the train. The surviving child was found crying underneath the train and was rescued by emergency services.
NSW Police Superintendent Paul Dunstan praised the father’s “incredibly brave and heroic act,” noting that he gave his life to save his children. Premier Chris Minns also commended the father’s sacrifice, calling it an “extraordinary instinctive act of bravery.”
The mother, who witnessed the incident, is receiving support and counseling. The community, particularly the Indian community, has rallied around the family, offering condolences and assistance.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident, including the train’s speed and how the stroller ended up on the tracks. This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of cherishing life and the depths of parental love.
