I never thought I’d be cheated out of my first-class seat on a plane, but that’s what happened. I was ripped off by a sneaky couple who had no idea who they were dealing with. They learnt a valuable lesson from the one I chose to teach them.
A couple came up to me as I settled into my aisle spot. The woman, who was wearing fancy clothes, told me I had to switch places with her. She said that she and her husband had to sit together, but I soon found out that they were lying to me on purpose. I had given up a premium spot that came with extra benefits that most people wouldn’t know about.
I chose to remain calm and let the couple enjoy their spot. I did have a plan, though. I knew that switching seats was against the rules at the airport, and I was determined to tell someone about the couple’s behaviour.
After waiting until the flight attendants were giving out drinks, I asked to talk to the top purser. I told her what was going on, and she listened carefully. And she gave me two choices: I could go back to my original seat or get a lot of flight points as payment.
I picked the second option because I knew that the points were worth a lot more than the price difference between the first and second classes. As a sign of goodwill, the purser smiled and put me in first class on my next trip.
Although the flight was still going, I couldn’t help but feel happy. They were in for a surprise because they thought they were safe with their lie. When the purser came up to them, they looked at him with a serious face.
The couple’s actions had been reported, and they were now going to have to deal with the results. They were led to the back of the plane and told that security would ask them when they got off. They were also put on the airline’s “do not fly” list, which made things even worse.
As I saw the couple being led away, I felt like things were being fair. They tried to take advantage of me, but I got back at them. As I grabbed my things, I smiled to myself because I knew I had gotten away with it.
Getting even doesn’t always mean making a scene. Sometimes it just means being patient and watching as people who think they’ve won realise how badly they’ve lost. That’s exactly what took place on that trip.
