On paper, it seemed like a normal Thanksgiving morning, with the smell of roasting turkey and the sound of veggies sizzling. But I had no idea that our dog Max had other ideas. Because he wouldn’t stop barking at the turkey, I found something that would change our holiday and leave me speechless.
I couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong with Max as I tried to calm him down. He was saved as a puppy, and he’s always been active, but this was different. He kept barking and seemed to be very interested in the turkey. I tried to get his attention with treats, but he wouldn’t move.
Before I took the turkey out of its plastic wrapper, I didn’t understand why Max was so upset. I found a plastic bag with a lot of cash worth a lot of money inside the turkey. I was shocked. Where did this cash come from? Kyle, my husband, did you know about it?
As I tried to figure out what I had just learnt, Kyle and his mom Ruth walked into the kitchen. After I called the police, he saw the turkey and the cash still on the counter, and his face went pale.
After that, the answer was nothing but strange. Kyle took out all of his savings to surprise me with a trip to Hawaii. But he was in such a hurry that he forgot to put the money in the turkey. He hadn’t thought about what would happen, so there were police officers in the kitchen and the dog was very confused.
I couldn’t help but laugh at how silly everything was as the police took statements and looked at the proof. Why would someone hide tens of thousands of dollars in cash in a turkey? Kyle, my husband.
After the cops left, we were able to enjoy our Thanksgiving dinner, though we had a few more stories to tell. Max, our hero dog, got extra treats for his hard work, and Kyle learnt how to solve problems in new ways.
As we joked and laughed around the table, I realised that the best memories don’t always come from the places you expect them to. You never know, maybe one day we’ll laugh even more when we remember this Thanksgiving.
