I’ve always wanted to adopt a third child, even though I already have two. But the fact that my mother-in-law didn’t like it and my husband wasn’t sure what to do could break our dreams. Then, out of the blue, something happened that would never happen again.
When we met Evie, a sweet six-year-old girl, my husband and I fell in love. We were sure she was meant to be a part of our family. But during a tense dinner with my mother-in-law, my husband started to have doubts. He told her a big secret the next morning: he had changed his mind about adopting Evie.
Even though I was sad, I was determined not to give up on Evie. I packed our bags and left with the kids to find safety in the house where my mother used to live. We turned the house into a cosy home with the help of my kids and a helpful neighbourhood.
As I wrote about our trip on social media, people I didn’t know before became friends and offered support and encouragement. Kindness, food, and tools were brought to our door by strangers. Our little house turned into a sign of love and hope.
When my husband came back weeks later, he was sorry and ready to make things right. We finished fixing up the house together and added Evie to our family. Even my mother-in-law started to change, and in the end, she welcomed Evie with open arms.
Our home now shows how powerful pure love can be and what family really means. We’ve broadened our views by welcoming foster children in need into our hearts and homes. The trip taught us that family is more than blood ties. It’s also about the choices we make and the love we share.
