The fire started early Wednesday morning in Ventura County and has now spread to about 32 square miles, with only 5% of it contained. The authorities are still looking into what caused it.
Ten people were hurt, mostly by breathing in smoke and having non-life-threatening problems, according to Ventura County Sheriff James Fryhoff.
Besides the buildings that were burned, 88 others were damaged, but officials didn’t say whether it was from fire, water, or smoke.
10,000 people are still being told to leave their homes because the Mountain Fire is threatening 3,500 buildings in Camarillo’s suburbs, ranches, and farming areas.
With the help of water-dropping airplanes, firefighters are fighting the fire in difficult terrain, focusing on homes on hills near Santa Paula, a city with more than 30,000 people.
