Dreamcatchers for Abused Children is a non-profit group that works hard to help children who have been abused. Not long ago, they shared a touching list that was written by an Oklahoma foster kid whose alcoholic parents abused and neglected him badly.
Because of the boy’s heartbreaking events, he wanted simple things and love. A worried neighbor called social services, who came to his aid and put him up with Dreamcatchers.
When the group found the boy’s forever family, he made a list of things he wanted in his new home. A lot of people were moved by the list, which was full of basic wants.
“I want food and water,” is what he really wants.
Do not hit or fight.
A house with lights and running water.
Love.
No drugs or being drunk.
Take care of my pets.
Get help with school.
Wear clean clothes.
There are no bugs or lice.
A clean home and bed.
Please do not sell my toys.
Following the rules.
TV and everyday things.
I have my own toothbrush, comb, and soap.
A place that is safe, warm, and cozy.”
This list is a stark lesson to be thankful for the little things in life. Let’s get the word out about child abuse and help groups like Dreamcatchers.
