A new bill introduced by Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY – 24) could make June 14 a federal holiday. The date, which is already celebrated as Flag Day, also happens to be Donald Trump’s birthday. The proposed legislation, H.R. 1395, would officially designate the day as “Trump’s Birthday and Flag Day,” combining the two occasions into one.
In a statement, Tenney described Trump as one of the most consequential presidents in modern history. She pointed to his achievements, such as brokering the Abraham Accords and implementing major tax reforms, as reasons why he deserves recognition. Tenney even compared Trump to George Washington, the only U.S. president whose birthday is celebrated as a federal holiday.
The bill also aims to address the lack of a federal holiday honoring the American flag. With the nation’s 250th anniversary approaching, Tenney believes it’s the perfect time to create a holiday that celebrates both the flag and Trump’s contributions to the country.
Currently, only Pennsylvania recognizes Flag Day as a legal holiday. If the bill passes, it would bring national attention to the day and create a new way to honor both the flag and Trump’s legacy.
Tenney has been a strong supporter of Trump, aligning with him on issues like immigration and job creation. However, she has expressed some reservations about his trade policies, particularly the tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. Despite this, she has remained a loyal ally, even campaigning alongside him in the past.
The proposal has already generated mixed reactions, with some praising the idea and others questioning its necessity. As the bill moves forward, it will be interesting to see whether June 14 becomes a day to celebrate both Trump and the American flag.
