As we get older, our skin needs different care—especially when it comes to showering. While daily showers might have been fine in younger years, seniors often benefit from washing less frequently.

Aging skin loses moisture easily and becomes more sensitive. Showering too often, especially with hot water and strong soaps, can strip away protective oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Most dermatologists recommend showering two to three times a week for those over 65.

Between showers, staying clean is still simple. Washing hands, using a damp cloth for freshening up, and applying moisturizer regularly can help. When showering, quick, lukewarm rinses with mild cleansers are best. Afterward, gently drying and moisturizing helps keep skin soft and healthy.

This approach isn’t about neglecting hygiene—it’s about protecting aging skin. By adjusting shower habits, seniors can avoid discomfort and keep their skin in better condition. Sometimes, less really is more.
