New York City’s skyline tour turned tragic when a helicopter carrying a Spanish family of five and their pilot crashed into the Hudson River on Thursday. Merce Camprubi Montal and Agustín Escobar, along with their three young children, were enjoying a holiday in the city when their sightseeing flight ended in catastrophe.

The family’s brother and uncle, Joan Camprubí Montal, traveled from Barcelona to New York to pay his respects. At a riverside memorial, he remembered his loved ones: “We will keep your smile alive every day of our lives.” His words captured the depth of loss for the tight-knit family.

Pilot Sean Johnson, a military veteran, had radioed about needing fuel shortly before the aircraft broke apart midair.
