The damage from Hurricane Helene is still being felt in the US, leaving a path of destruction and sadness. This storm has killed at least 135 people, and the Carolinas are the worst hit.
Megan Drye, a mother from Ashville, North Carolina, saw her 7-year-old son Micah and her parents being swept away by floods. Such a sad story. Jessica, Megan’s sister, wrote on Facebook about how sad her family was.
Micah’s last words were told by Jessica: “Jesus!” As the flood took him, he yelled, “Please help me!” She thought about her own sadness and knew Megan, who had made it through, had a long road ahead of her.
Megan lost everything, so a GoFundMe page has been set up to help her. The last picture of Micah on the page was taken by his grandma and shows the happy boy in a Jurassic World T-shirt.
While the country mourns the deaths, schools in Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee closed their doors to make sure students were safe. All 159 counties in Georgia were put under a State of Emergency by Governor Brian Kemp.
