Funny and out of the blue, a young boy took the lesson that you should call 911 in an emergency to a whole new level. When he was having trouble with his math homework, he called the usual number to get help.

When the 911 operator was trained to deal with life-or-death situations, she was instead faced with a maths problem disaster. There was a lot of cute miscommunication in the talk.

The Call:

Calling 911, what is your emergency?

Boy: I need help.

Person in charge: What’s wrong?

Boy: Do my maths.

Caller: Are you using your lips?

Boy: No, I did the maths! Please help me.

As the operator tried to understand what was going on, it became clear that the boy was determined to get help with his maths.

Customer Service: Where do you live?

Boy: I do not wish to inform you. I need to talk to you.

The operator asked the boy about his maths problems and listened as he talked about how hard they were.

Operator: What’s going on?

Boy: -8 – 16.

Person in charge: What do you think the answer is?

Boy: 1.

The operator helped him slowly with the maths, and just as they were making progress, the boy’s mother stepped in.

A woman asked Johnny, “What are you doing?”

Boy: The police officer is helping me with my maths.

It was clear that the mum was shocked and amused.

Woman: I meant to call the cops!

At the end of the call, the operator reassured the mom and she promised to help her son with his maths.

This sweet conversation makes us remember that kids do take lessons seriously sometimes. What did you know? 911 could be used as a maths number.
