Not Likely Allies: A Story of Friendship, Betrayal, and Karma

Ann and I met by chance in yoga class, but our friendship took a turn I didn’t expect. When we found out that Ann was also my husband’s hidden lover, our lives were changed forever.

Ann and I met at yoga and became friends over coffee and jokes. She told me stories about her new boyfriend, Jim, and I told my husband, Jim, stories about my own life. It seemed like a strange chance.

Ann showed me a picture of her Jim one bad day. It broke my heart to see that it was my husband. Ann was shocked and angry. She felt lied to and abused.

We came up with a plan to show that my husband was cheating on me. Sara helped us make a fake dating page called “Cheryl,” and we watched as Jim fell for it.

It was time to make things right at Le Château diner. Ann and Sara did a great job carrying out our plan, which made Jim look stupid and embarrassed.

Jim’s world fell apart as the truth came out. His job, image, and secret life were all found out. Ann and I felt free and strong as we left.

We drank wine and watched the video that went viral of Jim being shamed in public. Our friendship grew out of support for each other and a shared desire for fairness.

Sara said, “To karma!” “To unexpected friendships and new beginnings!” Ann and I both said back.

I got a true friend, self-respect, and the knowledge that living a happy life is sometimes the best way to get back at someone.
