Moral Lesson: The Solar Lights Story

Share

There have been some tough times for me as a single mom, but nothing as surprising as what happened with my friend Meredith. It seemed like a small thing for her to ask me to take down my safe solar lights, but what happened next was shocking.

Meredith, a finance worker who likes nice things, had just moved in next door. Her spotless yard and fancy lifestyle didn’t seem to go with her bad mood.

When she complained about my solar lights, I tried to be fair by telling her about how they give off a soft glow and turn off by themselves. She kept insisting, though, and threatened to call the police if I didn’t get rid of them.

I gave in reluctantly, trying to bring peace back to our lives. When Meredith did what she did, I didn’t know that it would soon come back to haunt her.

The next morning, she came to my door anxious and messy, pleading with me to put the lights back up. Without the lights, raccoons had ripped through her yard and eaten all of her favorite plants and flowers.

I couldn’t help but feel karma because Meredith had gotten what she deserved. She fell because she thought she deserved better and didn’t care about other people. I kindly told her I couldn’t help and suggested she hire a professional to fix up her garden.

I couldn’t help but smile as I saw her work hard to bring her yard back to life. I learned from this that fate does have a way of making things right.

Kindness and care were taught to Meredith in a very important way, and I learned how to stand up for myself and my daughter Lily. The solar lights, which used to cause arguments, were now shining brighter than ever, a sign of our victory over hardship.
