Even if the cancer is beaten, it is still awful to see a close friend or family member go through it.
Cancer obviously takes a terrible toll on the people who have it, but what is less often talked about is how it affects the person’s family and friends.
Thankfully, most people who are dealing with this terrible illness are lucky enough to have a network of people who can help them through the hardest times.
Having someone to lean on can really help, so it’s important to be strong and help each other out.
Shannen Doherty, an actor who is 52 years old, told the world in June of this year that her stage 4 cancer had spread to her brain. Her fans were shocked and saddened by her news.
The actress from Beverly Hills, 90210, and Charmed was first told she had breast cancer in 2015. After treatment, she went into recovery two years later.
Doherty saddened everyone when she said on Good Morning America in 2020 that she had stage 4 cancer, not just that it had come back.
“I’ll be told I’m in stage four in a few days or a week,” she said. “I’m here because my cancer came back.”
Doherty said at the time that she had kept the news from the public for a year because she “didn’t think I’d processed it.” In many ways, it’s a bitter pill to take.
We can only guess how hard that year must have been, but we do know that the actress mostly kept her terrible diagnosis to herself while she worked on a reboot of BH90210.
She only told a few close friends and co-stars on Beverly Hills, 90210, like Brian Austin Green.
“There were times when I felt very anxious and thought, ‘I can’t really do this,’ and Brian was the only person in that group who knew the truth. I told him pretty quickly, ‘Here’s what I’m dealing with,'” she said.
“Before every shoot, he would call me and say, ‘Listen, you know, whatever happens, I’ve got your back.'” He would look at me and say, “Kid, we got this”…Brian really helped me a lot.”
Now, Green has given a report on the health of his close friend in an interview with the Herald Sun.
“We talk all the time,” he said. “She is a very tough person.” She is one of the people who could really fight cancer.
“Obviously, things aren’t easy, but I love her so much.”
“She’s really making the best of it.”
This is true: Doherty has gained a lot of praise for being so open about her fight with cancer. The actor has been very honest with her fans and has tried to keep them up to date at all times.
In June of this year, Doherty shared video of her first radiotherapy treatment and wrote, “On January 5th, my CT scan showed Mets in my brain.” The movie from yesterday showed how to get the mask that you wear while getting radiation to your brain.
“The first round of radiation happened. My fear is clear. There was a lot going on in my life, and I’m very afraid of being squished.
“I’m lucky to have great doctors like Dr. Amin Mirahdi and great techs at Cedar Sinai.” There was fear, chaos, and bad timing, and that’s what cancer can look like.
