In a strange twist of fate, a rude customer met her match.

A storm was building up in the middle of our family-owned pizzeria. A mad customer, full of false information and anger, walked in and told us that we messed up her order. But my grandma, who was always calm and wise, wasn’t going to let her rant ruin our evening.

With a soft smile, Grandma listened carefully as the woman’s voice got louder and her words hung in the air like a dare. Grandma wasn’t scared, though. She calmed things down with a few smart words, which made the woman look stupid and ashamed.

It was clear that the woman made a mistake—she got the wrong pizza from the wrong shop. With her quick mind and strong gut, Grandma had called her out on it. The room started laughing out loud, and the stress went away. It was replaced by a feeling of relief and righteous anger.

It was clear that Grandma was smart as the woman slunk away, beaten. She said, with eyes full of old wisdom, “Life has a funny way of giving us what we deserve.” “Sometimes it’s a slice of humble pie.”

That’s when I realized Grandma’s calm attitude wasn’t just a trait, it was a superpower. What she did with grace and poise taught me an important lesson: it doesn’t matter what happens to you, but how you deal with it.

As we shut down the store, I couldn’t help but be thankful for how things had turned out. It acted as a reminder that karma can be very strong, and sometimes all we need is a piece of humble pie to get back to earth.
