Levi Wright, the young son of rodeo star Spencer Wright, has tragically passed away.
The three-year-old succumbed to a traumatic brain injury following a near-drowning accident on May 21.
Levi was taken to a hospital in Salt Lake City after accidentally driving his toy tractor into a river near his family’s home. Local authorities found him unconscious about a mile downstream.
Initially declared brain dead with little hope for survival, Levi began to show signs of improvement.
“LEVI WOKE UP! I am in shock. We don’t know much yet, but the doctor said it’s okay to be excited, and I AM! My baby is so tough!” his mother, Kallie Wright, joyfully posted on Facebook.
However, the following day brought grim news as the results of an MRI were not encouraging.
“We’re devastated, but these are just images suggesting a certain quality of life. The true test will be how Levi progresses over the next few days,” Kallie shared.
As Levi continued to battle in the hospital, his family and friends kept praying for his recovery.
On June 2, Kallie shared heartbreaking news.
“After several sleepless nights, extensive research, multiple conversations with top neurologists, and millions of prayers, we face our greatest fear,” she wrote. “Levi showed us enough to buy time for this. We hoped he was defying the odds and showing us he wanted to stay, but now we see he was giving us time to find peace with letting him go.”
After numerous tests, scans, and consultations, the Wright family decided to take Levi off life support.
The next day, June 3, family friend Mindy Sue Clark confirmed on Facebook that Levi had passed away.
“I cannot even begin to explain how hard the last two weeks have been. From the moment I got the call about his accident to last night’s message that he had to go. I don’t want to dwell on the pain, though it feels like my heart has been ripped out. I want to remember the miracles we witnessed in those 12 days.”
“The most perfect three-year-old there ever was. So perfect we didn’t get to keep him. This baby boy moved mountains in his last days. He brought so many people together. In a world so dark, he brought light. He’s everything his mom and dad could’ve hoped for.”
